The Yancey County Cooperative Extension Service is
taking orders for several different plants as well as heirloom apple
trees for the 2010 planting season. The plants available are three
varieties of June bearing strawberries: Jewell, Allstar, and
Earliglow — $4.50/25, $16.00/100, $130.00/1000 and two day neutral/everbearing
varieties: Seascape and Tribute — $5.00/25, $18.00/hundred,
$150.00/1000; blueberry plants — $5.00 each; red raspberries —
$2.00 each; black raspberries — $3.00 each; blackberries (thornless)
— $3.00 each; asparagus (Jersey Knight) — $.75 each; horseradish —
$3.00 each; 15 heirloom apple tree varieties — $16.00 per tree:
American Golden Russet (Sweet Rusty Coat); Carolina Red June; Esopus
Spitzenberg; Magnum Bonum; Newtown Pipin; Original Winesap; Red
Sheepnose/ Crow Egg; Sops of Wine; Summer Banana; Summer Rambo;
Virginia Beauty; Yellow Bellflower; and Yellow Transparent /Early
Transparent. Modern Varieties: Gala and Goldrush. Plant order
deadline has been extended through Tuesday, March 30, 2010.
