Phineas (Phin) Edgar Horton III

Details: Phin was a son of the late Phineas Edgar Horton, Jr. and Laura Frances Medearis Horton.  He was the former City Manager of Asheville.  He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bunny Hooper Horton; four daughters: Ann Farmer and husband Mark, Pamela Terwilliger and husband Tom, Susan Majors and husband Brian, all of Durham, and Mary Nash of Wake Forest; and nine grandchildren. A celebration of Phin's life will be held Saturday November 28th at 1:00pm at Aaron Baptist Church in Montezuma, NC.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Aaron Baptist Church, P.O. Details: Born in Unicoi County, TN she was a daughter of the late James H. and Myrtle Honeycutt Carathers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two husbands; Ted Long and Ed Sparks, and five brothers; Lester, Grady, Herman, James H. Jr. and Freddie Carathers.  Survivors include a sister Joyce Edwards of Erwin, TN and three great grandsons; Eric Sonny Sparks and wife Angela of Spruce Pine, John Hoilman of New York and Shawn Riddle of Spruce Pine.  Funeral services for Mrs. Long will be conducted at 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 17 in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. David Philbeck officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Robert Wade Austin

Details: A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Jeter and Lizzie Hensley Austin. and was also preceded in death by sisters Frances Elkins, Eula Jean Moore and Ann Banks and brothers Talmadge and Charlie Wint Austin. He was a Korean War Navy veteran and a member of Bald Creek Lodge #397 AF&AM, and an avid trout fisherman.  Surviving are his wife Johnnie Morrow Austin, children; Joe Austin and Rachel; Kenitra Higgins and Dennis; and Bill Austin all of Burnsville, and Scott Austin and Cynthia of Green Mountain; 7 grandchildren; Jeremiah and Ashley Styles; Maria, Nathan, Andy and Lochlin Austin and Briana Higgins. 2 great grandchildren; Jaden Styles and Hunter Isaacs, and, numerous loving nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held at 8:00 pm Monday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Stacey Elkins officiating. Masonic Grave rites will be conducted by Bald Creek Lodge following the funeral service.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00pm Monday prior to the service.  Military grave rites will be conducted by Sgt. Details: A native of Clay County, KY, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Lillie Hornsby Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chauncey A. Humphries who passed away in 1992. She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Oma Riddle and Sarah Rigby; and four brothers; Floyd Baker, Oral Baker, Paul Baker, and Ernest Baker. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Spruce Pine.  Mrs. Humphries is survived by two daughters; Katherine H. Campbell and husband, Wayne of Southlake, TX and Donna H. Owen and husband, Forrest D. Owen, Jr. of Charlotte; a brother, Carl Baker of Spruce Pine; a sister, Georgia Howell of Spruce Pine; granddaughters; Alyse Tatum of Dallas, TX and Kristen Compton of Monroe; grandsons; Marc Campbell of Ft. Worth, TX, and Kevin Owen of Charlotte; great granddaughter, Brianna Storch of Monroe; great grandson, Mason Compton of Monroe; nieces; Carol Masters of Bakersville, Brenda Sparks of Spruce Pine, and Beverly Pitman of Myrtle Beach, SC; and a nephew, Leland Riddle of Spruce Pine.  The funeral services for Mrs. Shaby Humphries will be conducted on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Greene will officiate the services. Interment will be in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. Details: Son of the late James P. and Chloe Stroupe Baldwin and preceded in death by two wives, Margaret Wyont Baldwin and Joanna Johnson Baldwin, two sons; Evan Keith and David Berman Baldwin, three brothers; Loy, James and Howard Baldwin and a sister Mary Richardson.  Evan lived in Dundalk, Maryland for about 50 years and was retired from Sears where he was a super shoe salesman.  Survivors include two sisters; Bertha Brafford and Dorothy Thornburg of Bessemer City, NC, sisters in law; Iva Burton of Bessemer City, NC, Bobbi Baldwin of Gastonia, NC and Charlotte Baldwin of Walhalla, SC, three daughters; Faith B. Warren and husband Charlie of Spruce Pine, Mary Chloe Kellner and husband Joseph of Essex, Maryland, and Beth Bridgett Sadler of Ft. Myers, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Tami and Bobby Autrey, Charles and Carol Warren, Gary and Ramona Warren, Christina, Brandi, Becca and David Kellner, Kenny Bridgett, Jr. and Justin Bridgett, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services for Mr. Baldwin will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday November 17, 2009 in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Lula Pate Miller

Details: She was the daughter of the late Turner and Lizzie Pate of Bee Log. She was the wife of Ernest “Bud” Miller who passed away on December 21, 1971. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Floyd, Rev. W.C. “Bill” and Ike Pate; sisters: Zanie Dobbins and Zula Jones and her grandson, Chris Chaney. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Hazel Hollifield of Spartanburg, SC; sons: Jerry Miller and wife, Carolyn, of Burnsville, Gary Chaney and wife, Donna, of Burnsville and Rickey Chaney and wife, Mary, of Warsaw, NC; daughters: Ina Gail Garnett and husband, Jim, of Green Cove Springs, FL, Gail Cole and husband, Johnny, and Dail Neal and husband, Ray, of Burnsville; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, a very special cousin, Shirley Silvers and her companion and beloved dog, Buddy. Lula was employed as a cook at Bee Log High School, Mtn. Heritage High School and The Parkway Playhouse. She was also employed at Asheville Waste Paper in Asheville. Throughout her life, Lula was a caregiver throughout Yancey County and Bat Cave, NC to the elderly and children. She was a member of Bee Log Baptist Church for over 80 years, where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p. m. on Monday, November 16th, 2009 at Bee Log Baptist Church. Revs. Dr. W.C. Pate Jr., Kelly Bryant and Kenneth Parker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pate Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p. m on Sunday, November 15th at Yancey Funeral Services and at other times will be gathered at Lula’s residence. Frances McMahan Doan

Details: She was a daughter of the late Sam and Damarius McMahan and was the wife of the late Horace Doan, who passed away in 1987. She was also preceded in death by a son, Sam Doane, a brother, Grover McMahan and a sister, Irma Rathburn.
Survivors include a daughter, Verlyn Geouge and husband, Dean, of Kooskia, Idaho; a son, Bobby Doane and wife, Ruth, of Burnsville; a daughter-in-law, Essie McKinney Doane of Spruce Pine; two sisters: Attalene Fletcher of Thomasville and Bernice Gibby of Taylorsville. Two granddaughters, four grandsons, eight great-granddaughters, six great-grandsons and one great, great-granddaughter also survive. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p. m. on Thursday, November 19th, 2009 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Davy Shelton will officiate. Burial will follow in the family cemetery on Possum Trot Road. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p. m. on Thursday prior to the services at the funeral home.

Thomas "Tommy" Hardin Sams

Details: He was a son of Kathleen B. Young and the late T. F. Sams. He was also preceded in death by his step-father: J. Hiram Young.  Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his step-mother: Faye Murphy Sams; siblings and their spouses: Renee S. Aylward and husband, Alastair, Annette Hensley and husband, Dennis, Sherry Lee Chandler and husband, Kenneth, Larry B. Sams, and wife, Regina, Eric Sams and wife, Ginger, and John B. Young and wife, Denise; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends; all of whom Tommy has blessed with his big smile and unwavering wit and joy of experiencing life’s little pleasures.  Tommy’s every-day-life family that shared a home for special-needs adults with him includes his best friend Joel Embler, as well as, Jackie, Karen, Paul, and Jimmy. He was also blessed with a much bigger caring family of clients and care providers who shared his home, school, and work, which was made possible by Blue Ridge Homes. All of whom were an integral part of Tommy’s daily life, love, health, and general well being; with special acknowledgment given to Paula Nibarger for her enduring dedication to Tommy and his care.  Tommy’s other family is all his brothers and sisters in Christ who attended Woodland Hills Baptist Church with him and who were also with him and his family as Tommy left this earth for his heavenly home and family of saints.  A family service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home with burial in Bowditch Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church officiated by ministers Eric Sams, his brother, and Cameron Smith, his nephew. Walter W. "Walt" Ward

Details: Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Ward served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  He worked as a machinist mechanic at Distant Precision in Philadelphia for 18 years, until his retirement.  Mr. Ward was a Mason and a member of Prospect Lodge No. 578, F & AM in Prospect Park.  Mr. Ward was the windower of Estelle Ward and son of the late Walter and Carrie Ward.  Survivors include his wife: Marie L. Ward; sons: James Bowen of Media and James F. Carrie D. Miller

Details:  She was the daughter of the late Rufus D. and Elsie Pyatt Dale. She was also preceded in death by her husband, H.D. Miller, who passed away in 2004, and two brothers: John and Sanford Dale. Carrie loved fishing and visiting with her neighbors but loved her family most of all. She was a member of Brummits Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters: Annette Morris and husband, Scott Lee, of Green Mountain, and Sandra D. Miller and husband, Richard, of Burlington; two sisters: Myra Creech and husband, Leo, of Burlington, and Flaude Anglin and husband, Clyde, of the Jacks Creek Community; a brother, Rufus Dale of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Marie Dale of Old Fort; four grandchildren: Hunter Dale Miller, Trevor M. Miller, Decker Conners Miller, and Hannah River Miller. She is also survived by a special friend, Thelma Street of Harrell Hill and several nieces and nephews. Harold Ellis

Details: A native of Mitchell County he was a son of the late Arnold and Fannie Duncan Ellis. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII and a member of the Pine Branch Baptist Church where he served many years as a deacon, he also was retired from Ellen’s Knitting Mill where he worked as a supervisor. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Grace Ellis, his step mother Dovie Duncan Ellis, a step brother, Jack Ellis and a step sister Jean Ellis Burleson.  Survivors include his daughter Kay Webb and husband Larry of Roxie, MS, a grandson; Sean Hoppes and wife Sharon of Portland, TN and two great-grandsons; Connor Hoppes and Hayden Hoppes both of Portland, TN. Details: A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Roxie Miller Bryant and wife of Charlie Berry who died in 1970.  Della was a member of Byrd Branch Baptist Church.  Surviving are 4 daughters: Neva, June, Lillian and husband, Dolph, and Mildred, and husband, S. W.; 3 sons: Gene Berry and wife, Mattie, and Ted Berry and wife, Wanda, all of Burnsville; Ray Berry and wife, Betsy, of Hickory; a brother: Hansel Bryant of Valdese; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends Tuesday November 3rd from 6:00pm until the funeral service begins at 8:00pm in the funeral home chapel.  Rev. Details: “Donnie”, as friends and family knew her was born on December 28, 1940. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. R.M. Cassity, a beloved son, Richard Phillips and a sister, Jean Potter. Donna was a member of First Baptist Church. She was an accomplished homemaker using her gifts of creativity in her painting and crafting to warm her home and give gifts to her family. She loved to sing, read and spend time in devotion with her Lord. Her senior year of high school, she was voted “Best All Around” and was a cheerleader for four years.  She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Tommy Phillips, two daughters, Starli McDowell and husband Jeff McDowell of Green Mountain, Felicia Spurling and husband Rick Spurling of Spruce Pine, four grandchildren, Brandi Phillips of Atlanta, GA, Myles Phillips of Kansas City, MO, Madison and Max Spurling of Spruce Pine, one sister, Anne Bray of Tulsa, OK, and a brother, Gen. Eddie Cassity of Albany, GA. She was very much loved by her many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services for Mrs. Phillips will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Spruce Pine. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the service hour at the church. Zeola Hughes Perkins

Details: She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and was the daughter of the late David and Hannah Garland Hughes. She was a homemaker and enjoyed making afghans for her family and friends. She was a member of St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star. Survivors include: son, J.C. Perkins and wife Erma of King, NC, daughter, Doris Storie and her husband Marvin K. of Boone, NC, grandchildren, Joey Perkins, Regina Gordon, Tonya Barlow, Sheila Storie, and Claudia Cook, great grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Garrett, Aaron, Taylor, Korbel, and Carson, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Perkins who passed away in 2000, two sisters, and seven brothers.

Details:  A native of Asheville, and residing most of her life in Burnsville, she was a daughter of Glenda Gibbs Treadway of Leicester, and the late Paul Treadway. She received her degree in Horticulture from Mayland Community College in 2004. After which, she became the owner and operator of We Can Dig It Nursery in Burnsville. Surviving are her sons, Kyle Barrus and Kristian Barrus of Burnsville; daughter, Kayla Barrus of Burnsville; brothers, Michael Treadway of Barnardsville, Bill Treadway of Marshall; sisters, Paula White and husband, Jeff, of Greenville, TN, Pam Watson of Asheville; special aunts, Sally White of Asheville, Mary Gail Frizsell of Nashville, TN, brother-in-law, Gibb Barrus and wife Annie of Burnsville; and nieces, nephew, and cousins. A service will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 6:00 pm at Higgins Memorial Church in Burnsville. A private burial will be held at Dry Pond Cemetery. Wilma Buchanan

Details: A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Dwight Talmadge “DT” Johnson and the late Madge Wilson Johnson. She was a member of the Cane Creek Baptist Church.  Mrs. Wilma Buchanan is survived by her husband; Burbage Buchanan of Spruce Pine; two daughters; Jackie Boone and husband, Ronald of Arden; and Libby Woody and husband, Jimmy of Micaville; two sons; Paul Rose and wife, Sherry of Spruce Pine ; and David Rose and wife, Ann of Spruce Pine step daughter; Joyce Orndoff and husband, Mike of Spruce Pine; ; two sisters; Maxine Rathbone of Bakersville; and Donna Mae Jones of Erwin, TN; two sisters-in-law; Mable Whiton of Spruce Pine and Lucille Rose of Newland; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren.  The funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Buchanan will conducted on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Roy Lee Robinson

Age: 85

Details:  Born in Micaville, NC on February 22, 1924 to Goodson and Lou Robinson. One of 10 children, his siblings were: Carver, Wess, Floyd, Willie, Lola, Julia, Allie, Lena and Sarah Jane. Mr. Robinson was a veteran of World War II serving with B Company, 399th Infantry Regiment, 100th Division, from March 6, 1943 to November 17, 1945. His decorations and citations included: Purple Heart Metal, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Honorable Service While a Prisoner of War Medal. A member of the Rifle Squad, he went into enemy territory on scouting and patrolling missions. He gave support to automatic ground weapons and took and held enemy strong points and territory. On March 6, 1944 he received a head wound from shrapnel and waited in a foxhole for over 12 hours to be rescued. When released from the hospital, he returned to the front lines and in early January, 1945 his unit was captured by the Germans. He was placed in a Prisoner of War camp in Czechoslovakia, where he remained until June, 1945. After his discharge, he returned to his beloved Yancey County where he lived until his death.  A life-long member of Double Island Baptist Church he served as deacon for 42 years. He worked for and retired from International Mineral Corp. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Faye Hoilman Robinson; four children: Glenda Robinson Wilson and husband Roby, Regina Robinson Woody and husband Steve, David Robinson and wife Sharon, Daniel Robinson and wife Angie. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Christy R. Wilson, Michael R. Wilson and wife Miranda, Mary Beth Woody, Luke Robinson, step-grandson Thomas Bell and two great-grandchildren: Jayden Woody and Katherine Wilson. Also, a special brother and sister-in-law: Joe and Shirley Hoilman. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 30, 2009 from 5:30 until 7 pm at Double Island Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7 pm. Military graveside services will be held at the Double Island Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:00 am. Terry Wayne Landon

Details:  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Landon and a brother, Steve Landon. Terry, a true nature lover, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in Vietnam. He was also a truckdriver.
Surviving is his mother, Nancy Horton Landon of Dallas, TX: a loving wife of 11 years, Millidene Edwards Landon of the home; a step daughter, Mary Louise Templeton of Fort Bragg; two step sons: Cody Ray Edwards of Mooresville, and Michael James Arrowood, of Burnsville: three sisters; Joyce Landon, of Dallas, TX; Janet Landon, of Houston, TX, and Lori Landon of San Antonio, TX.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2009, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service and at other times will be at the home of David and Carolyn Howell of the Bald Creek Community in Burnsville. Interment will be in the Edwards Cemetery. A second memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at their home in Mooresville.

Details: Born in Mitchell County he was a son of the late Robert and Mamie Buchanan Biddix. He was a member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church and volunteered for Avery Family Impact. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers; Rufus, Harold, June, Walter and Leonard Biddix and a sister Geneva Carpenter. Survivors include his wife Shirley Pitman Biddix of the home, two daughters; Julie Biddix Harrison of Asheville and Dolly Biddix of Newland, and a son; Bobby Biddix of Newland. He is also survived by a brother Boyd Biddix of Spruce Pine, a sister; Mary Lee Sparks also of Spruce Pine, two granddaughters; Casey Biddix and Tiffany Edwards both of Newland and a grandson; Brandon Biddix of Newland.  Funeral services for Mr. Biddix will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday October 29 in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Greg Hollifield and Harold Grindstaff officiating. Details: A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Coy and Mamie Laws Boone. He was also preceded in death by a grandson: Tanner DeWayne Boone. Jerry was an employee of Unimin with 41 years of service. He was a beloved husband, father and papaw.Surviving are his wife of 40 years: Frances Briggs Boone; 3 sons: Steven Boone and wife, Amy, Tim Boone and Alan Boone; 4 grandchildren: Dalton, Carrington, Jordan and Jada Boone; 4 brothers: Kenneth Boone and wife, Pat, Johnny Boone and wife, Elaine, Bill Boone and wife, Marcilla, and James Boone and wife, Amy, all of Burnsville; 2 sisters: Kathy Ray and husband, Rick, of Burnsville and Cheryl Washburn and husband, Charles, of Marion.  Funeral services will be held at 2PM Friday October 30th in Bowditch Union Church, of which he was a member. Margaret Black Deyton

Details: A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of Ephraim and Bertha Styles Black, and the wife of Dudley Deyton who died in 1977. She was preceded in death by brothers: John, Luther and Ralph Black; and, a sister: Anne Penland. Margarett enjoyed tending a garden, working in her flowers, reading, cooking, and keeping up with the news. She loved spending time with her family. Margarett had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people smile. She was a faithful friend who always helped anyone in need.  Surviving are a daughter: Linda Deyton DeSpain and husband, Carl, of Columbia, SC; grandson: Dr. Gene A. Garris, Jr. and wife, Angela; great granddaughters: Laurel and Pippa; a great grandson: Maximos Garris of Columbia; sisters: Dorothy Deyton and Louise Silcox of Burnsville, Grace Rogers of Leicester and Virginia Joines of Newark, DE; and, a brother: Charles Black of Burnsville.  Funeral services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Max E. Wilson

Age: 80

Details:  Max served as a Master Seargent in National Guard. In 1955, he started Wilson’s Spring and Body Works and in 1973 changed the name to Wilson’s Mobile Home Repairs, Inc. of which his son continues today. In 1960 he was instrumental in the building the Asheville Motor Speedway and was a former member and Past President of the Asheville Cosmic Club. He served as Deputy Marshal for Dwight D. Eisenhower and in 1974 he was appointed by Richard Nixon as U.S. Marshal of the Western District of N.C. and also again in 1982 by Ronald Reagan. After retiring from the Federal Government, he served as Chief Deputy with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Dept. and started Wilson’s Pawn and Salvage. He attended Reed Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Wilson was the son of the late Charles Denver Wilson and Mary Ellen Hensley Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward Wilson and sister, Ethel Earwood. He was also a great-great grandson of the Legendary Big Tom Wilson. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Flora Fulghum Wilson of the home; three children, Tony Wilson and wife Ann of Candler; Lisa Best and husband Jay of Candler; Kristy Wilson Hurley and husband Philip of Asheville; sister, Jean Allen; brothers, Ward Wilson, Don Wilson and Bill Wilson and the light of his life, his 9 grandchildren, Kurt Wilson, Rendy Burbank (Daniel), Chelsey Wilson, Christopher Best, Tori Best, Anna Best, Kathryn Best, Mari Best and Tristan Hurley. G. Burl Maney

Details: A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Walter and Ida Wilson Maney. He was also preceded in death by sisters: Ossie Sims and Vonnie Maney; a brother: Alden Maney; and, step-mother: Ann Styles Maney. Mr. Maney retired from the NC Public School System after 33 years service, and was a Charter Member of West Yancey Volunteer Fire Department.  Surviving are two daughters: Ida Jane Crowder and husband, Charles S., and Marie Nicholson and husband, Mike; a grandson: Chuck Crowder, all of Burnsville; two step granddaughters; three step great grandchildren, all of Orlando, FL., and, the daughter and granddaughter of his heart: Dianne and Andrea Edwards of Burnsville.  Funeral services will be held at 6PM Tuesday October 20th in the Cane River Baptist Church, of which he had been a member since 1929, serving as Deacon, Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. Details:  A native of McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Pauline Mason and the wife of Joel J. Scott. She and Joel owned and operated Scott’s Furniture and Upholstery for 30 years in Pompano Beach, Florida until retiring and moving back to the Kona Community where they enjoyed their friends and church family at Rebel’s Creek Baptist Church. Daphne loved reading, writing, quilting, cooking, shopping and chatting on the phone with her friends. Surviving is her loving husband of 63 years, Joel J. Scott; two daughters: Sandra Scallan and husband, Thomas, of Pompano Beach and Deborah Davis and husband, James, of Maggie Valley; three grandchildren: Barbara Franco and husband, Richard, Thomas Scallan, Jr. and wife, Patricia, and April Davis-Masterson and husband, Adam; eight great-grandchildren: Meghan Franco, Jenna Franco, Emily Franco, Sarah Franco, Mia Franco, Collin Franco, Keira Franco and Anthony Sharo.
