HONOR and REMEMBER THOSE AFFECTED BY CANCER

On Friday, June 26, 2009, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Yancey County will be conducting The Relay for Life Celebration!  If you haven’t heard, the new location this year will be at the Burnsville Elementary School from 6 PM on Friday evening through 6 AM on Saturday morning.

Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event that offers everyone an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.  Cancer is America’s #1 health concern.  Your involvement in the Relay for Life will help the American Cancer Society raise money to support research, education, advocacy, and other special programs and services for patients and their families.

Relay for Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people every year to . . .

Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer.  The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.

Remember loved ones lost to the disease.  At Relay, people who have walked alongside those battling cancer can grieve and find healing.

Fight Back.  We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.  Make a commitment to save lives by taking up the fight.

The entire event is inspirational and moving, from start to finish.  Yet one ceremony that sets the Relay for Life apart from other events is the Luminaria Ceremony – a ceremony of remembrance and hope.  It symbolizes a time to grieve for those we have lost, to reflect on our own cancer experience or that of those closest to us, and to find hope that tomorrow holds the promise of a cancer-free world.

Throughout the weeks building up to the Relay for Life, luminarias are available for purchase, and on the night of the event the celebration comes to life with the ceremonial lighting of the luminaria, followed by a silent lap.  Hundreds, even thousands of luminaria light up the night sky in memory of loved ones lost to cancer and in support of those currently battling the disease.  It is a breathtaking and emotional part of the event that reminds us all of the reasons we have come together to Celebrate Life!

GET YOUR LUMINARIA NOW!  Stop by the American Cancer Society Resource Center at 51 West Blvd (next to Burnsville Town Center)  OR Call for information:  682-3302

Make a special gift in Honor or in Memory of Your Loved Ones

THANK YOU, YANCEY COUNTY!!!!!
